Department of Neuroscience Undergraduate Advising:

Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience Advsing! Our advisors work to support and enrich the academic experience of students. Academic advisors play a critical role in promoting students success, feel connected to the institution, feel cared about, understand their purpose, and have clear academic and career goals to  persist in their academic endeavors. We can assist you in the areas of engagement, academic planning, decision making and problem resolution.

Schedule a 20-minute Question appointment on Navigate. Here are the instructions to find us on navigate:

Download a mobile app called Navigate-Student or access Navigate-Student through myPitt. 


Search for “Navigate Student” in the App Store or Google Play Store
Once you download the app, you will be prompted to select your school (University of Pittsburgh)
You will be asked to sign in with your Pitt username and password
You will be asked to authenticate your login using two-factor authentication 
You will be prompted to fill out a short survey about your academic experiences and interests
Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll be able to access it through Pitt Mobile in the “Academic Success” section


Look for “Pathways” on myPitt

You will be prompted to fill out a short survey about your academic experiences and interests


Click on the purple “Appointments” icon at the bottom of the home screen
Click the blue “Schedule (or Drop in for) an Appointment” button
Choose “Advising” as the type of appointment
Start typing “Neuro Advising” as the Service
Pick a date for the appointment or leave it as the default
Click the blue “Find Availability Time” button
Choose how you would like to meet (In-Person or Virtual)
Choose the date/time that works for you
Be sure to click the “Schedule” button to confirm your appointment


On the Navigate student app, simply go to My Appointments > Upcoming > Click on your Appointment > Cancel Appointment. 
Then you can use the link sent to you by your advisor or the app or web version to schedule another appointment

Advsing Expectations:

In order to better serve our students, we want to clarify our expectations for advising.  

What we expect of our neuroscience majors:

Meet with your advisor at least once/term to get hold lifted for course enrollment.  Enrollment appointments typically take place in September-October in the fall for spring course planning and in February-March for fall course planning. Your specific advisor name can be found in your student center of PeopleSoft account.

Take charge of your academic career: track your requirements for graduation and make a plan to meet those requirements.  

Explore career opportunities and extracurriculars on campus and beyond.

Stay informed. Make sure you read our Canvas news page for announcements to stay on top of deadlines and requirements.

What you should expect from neuroscience advising:

Provide personalized guidance on your academic path. We will provide you resources to track your requirements for graduation and will support you as you make a plan to meet those requirements.  

Support and supplement your academic and career interests. We are also excited to help you explore additional opportunities and build your network. We also help you get involved with research and UTA(Undergraduate Teaching Assistant) experiences.

Connect you with other resources on and off campus. We work with a number of other offices and are happy to help you find those connections – prehealth/pre PA, Graduate schools, career, etc...
